Accommodation In Gin Gin

Leave the big city and the sprawling suburbs behind for a slice of rural life in Gin Gin. A small town near the Bundaberg Region of Queensland, Gin Gin is a great place to fish, camp or chill out in the historic town centre restaurants or museum. It’s also a handy place to stop on the way to Rockhampton and is close to Bundaberg’s attractions. Book your Gin Gin hotel with us.

Like Bundy, Gin Gin is a sugar-producing hotspot where plantations line the roads. It was once part of Gin Gin Station, which was owned by Sir Thomas McIlwraith, the on-again off-again Queensland Premier from 1879 to 1893. Its nickname is ‘Wild Scotsman Country’, due to the capture of Scottish-born bushranger James Alpin McPherson north of the town in 1866. These days, Gin Gin is home to about 1200 people.

Lake Monduran, 20km north of Gin Gin, is one of the largest dams in the country and holds the world record for the biggest barramundi ever caught – which weighed in at 44.6kg. The lake has no shortage of huge barras, so if you’d like to feed the family with your own catch it’s an ideal place to hire a boat and explore the water. If fishing isn’t your thing, the foreshore of this 5,342-hectare lake has both powered and un-powered camping sites, barbecues and picnic areas.

Gin Gin’s town centre is based around shady Mulgrave Street, where shops, pubs and restaurants line each side of the road. Gin Gin Historical Museum offers a peek into the town’s railway heritage and has its own arts and crafts shop. If you don’t mind a little drive, pay a visit to the Good Night Scrub National Park, two hours’ south of Gin Gin, which has hoop pine scrubs and dry open forest.

While you’re here, make sure you check out the rest of the Bundy region too. From the beaches of Elliot Heads to the restaurants, shops and gardens of the Bundaberg CBD, there’s plenty to do! Book your Gin Gin accommodation with us and, if you’re flying in from interstate, don’t forget about a flight to Bundaberg as well.
