Brisbane Flights information: airfare specials and airline info

If you want to combine the comforts of a large city with the beautiful weather that only the top half of Australia can offer, then Brisbane is the destination for you.

Which airlines offer flights to Brisbane?

Awarded the ‘Best Privatised Airport Award’ by the International Air Transport Association in 2005, Brisbane Airport is the only major airport in the city, serviced by a number of airlines. From a regional perspective, Macair Airlines service rural towns of Queensland, while Qantas offer the bulk of international flights, as well as servicing other Queensland and East Coast destinations through Qantas Link.  Jetstar and Virgin Blue service the ever-growing demand for cheaper flights, with the latter providing flights to all state capitals.

Brisbane airport facilities

Brisbane Airport has a domestic as well as an international terminal, and offers a number of facilities. Numerous cafes and restaurants, as well as currency exchange are available. Furthermore, Brisbane Airport was the first airport to offer Wifi hotpsots in Australia. The Tourist Information Centre at the International Terminal is also set for a major revamp in 2007.

Travelling to and from Brisbane Airport

If driving to and from the airport, long and short-term parking is available at the international terminal. At the domestic terminal, short-term, undercover, and valet parking are all available. Travel between the terminals is possible via the Airtrain service, which costs $4 per person. You should leave a little time if changing terminals – they are 2km apart.  If you decide to use public transport to the city there are several options. Coachtrans offer a bus to the Brisbane Transit Centre, The Gold Coast, or the Sunshine Coast. The fare to a CBD hotel is $11, or $9 to the city. An Airtrain train to the city will take 22 mins, and set you back $12 - these also travel to the Gold Coast. However, the first trains do not run until around 6am, and stop at around 7pm. Taxis are plentiful, and will charge between $30 and $35 between Brisbane city and airport.

Brisbane Airport Accommodation

There are a number of places to stay in and around Brisbane Airport. The Airport itself is located in the southern suburbs at least 20 minutes from the CBD, so this should perhaps be considered if you are in transit. Nearer the airport, options include the Airport Hamilton Hacienda Best Western, the more affordable Kingsford Riverside Inn, or the commended Kingsford Smith Motel or Quest Ascot. Hotels nearer the airport will offer shuttles, but not all will be free.

What to do in Brisbane

Due to its sub-tropical location, there is never a bad time to visit Brisbane, although summer can be hot and humid. As for activities, visiting the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef is a popular pastime, as well as day trips to the rain forest or pristine beaches, nearer the city or further afield. In the city itself, Brisbane offers top-notch shopping at the Queen St Mall or Brisbane Arcade, as well as good restaurants and a growing nightlife. The South Bank of the river is also a popular ‘cultural’ destination .Visit Australia Zoo, or maybe Lamington or Cooloola National Park, and don’t forget to try the Moreton Bay Bugs!-
