Hayman Island during Winter is absolute heaven. Staying in the lagoon wing of one of the World's leading resorts I woke up each morning and looked out my window to the azure Whitsunday waters. I spent the first few days relaxing by the pool with cocktails and snacks and then ventured into the resort's grounds which are simply delightful to explore. There is always a comfy couch or deckchair to settle into and relax.
For the more energetic a winding bush walk to the top of the hill is well worth it for the spectacular views over the reef. There are many activities on offer at Hayman: kayaking, helicopter rides, sailing, mini golf, croquet and cruises.
The day cruise out to Whitehaven Beach is a wonderful trip. A stop along the way allows for a spot of snorkelling after which champagne and nibbles are served on board the cruiser. Once we reach our destination a relaxing swim to the white sandy beach from the cruise boat or a short motor boat ride to shore allows you to spend the afternoon picnicking, swimming & playing cricket on the long shore.
I took a couple of interesting tours of the resort's facilities and would highly recommend the chef's kitchen tour to any visitor to the island. The food is absolutely superb. All chocolates, pastries and breads are made by the chefs on the island. At the conclusion of the tour there are a range of handmade chocolates on offer to taste. The tour gives an insight into the workings of the five fabulous restaurants on the island. My favourite, 'Azure' serves Australian contemporary cuisine on the beach front. La Trattoria, La Fontaine and Oriental were all wonderful and provided a fantastic variety of cuisines.
Another interesting tour was the room tour. The resort staff guide you through one of each of the room types the hotel has on offer. Being from the Lagoon Wing it was great to see the Pool Wing Suites where ladders go straight from the bottom level balconies into the famous Hayman swimming pool. Also absolutely "Wow" are the Beach Front cabins. The bathrooms extend out into the private courtyard and are surrounded by greenery giving a very tranquil appearance.
Hayman Island is family orientated as well as being a great lovers retreat.
I would recommend a stay at this luxury resort any time of year.
