Langkawi

I stopped over for 7 nights in Langkawi on a return trip from Europe - a nice way to relax before returning home. It is however, very easy to get to from Australia via either Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

There is so much to see and do while in Langkawi, here is just a few :

The Cable Car - enjoy the glide above the rainforest. On the top station, there's are two platforms for you to enjoy the view of the Andaman Sea way above sea level. I must admit I was a little nervous at first (I am not so good with heights), but did get used to it, and it is just an amazing view from the top.

Night Market - The best part of the night market is the food - the smells, and tastes are wonderful. The night market is held in Kuah Town every Saturday and Wednesday from 7pm.

Island Hopping Tour - Most tour operators offer some sort of Island Hopping tour. The one we went on went to 3 different islands, and it was a great day out. Most of the day was spent in the water, swimming on the various beaches - a perfect day out.

While on Langkawi we hired a motor bike for the duration, it is an excellent way to get around and explore the island, cars are also very inexpensive to hire. The roads are very well maintained and traffic is not a problem. There are heaps of beaches, walks, waterfalls and rainforests to explore if you have a car/bike to get around. One of the beaches we found was Tg. Rhu Beach, it is a stunning - long white sandy beach, with some little islands that you can walk to when the tide is low.

There are many nice restaurants to try, too many to name them all. One which I would definately recommend is the Bon Ton. The food and atmosphere is out of this world, a good idea is to get there at sunset, it is just perfect.

The people and general service while on Langkawi was exceptional. Nothing was ever too much trouble, always willing to give us advice on things to see and do with a smile!
