The British Airways "Revolution"

by David Tonkin

I recently returned from a business trip to Europe flying British Airways and had the opportunity to experience what BA calls "a revolution in air travel". To help all our travellers to Europe & Asia better understand what BA are on about, I sampled

a) the brand new economy class cabin, World Traveller Plus
b) the new flat bed in business class (Club World) and
c) the new upgraded first class cabin

NEW World Traveller Plus

The new economy brand is definitely a breath of fresh air in what is generally known as economy, 'cattle class' or 'back of the bus'. Anyone (probably most of you!) that has experienced the 23 - 30 hour flight to Europe in economy knows how tough it can be, especially if you are above average height.

The new class has its own cabin with only 5 rows of seats, an extra 17cm (about 7 ins) of legroom and wider seats. I can assure you it makes an enormous difference and is comparable to many business classes of a few years ago. Every seat has a seat-back video with 12 channels (8 movie channels) running continuously (also available in standard economy - World Traveller). Each seat also has a power point for 'road warriors' like myself (this is being typed under battery power at 35,000 feet) who get frustrated when batteries run down on a long flight. Its amazing how much work you can catch up on on a 23 hour flight - the time shoots by with work, movies, meals etc.
