The Mentawai Islands offer some of the best surf to be found anywhere. This archapeligo of Islands attract large swells between the months of May to November with waves getting upto 15 foot. When the swell is big there is the oportunity to surf smaller breaks that arn't 10 foot death pits or to simply charge the biggest Indo tubes you've ever ridden. There is swell all year round and always a wave to be found. Each boat has a run-about to take you to the action quickly and ensure that you reach the waves in as least time as possible.
The Mentawai Islands receive swell from all directions. It is generally bigger in the dry season, May to November, but gets good swell most of the year. The variety of waves here means that all standards of surfers will enjoy the Mentawai’s.
H.T.'S - a short, perfect right-hand barrel
Lances Lefts - excellent left-hander with two barrel sections
Maccas - a mechanical left that barrels on take off then provides a long, extremely workable wall
Thunders - a consistent hollow left that provides a great wave when everywhere else is small
Arrik's - Excellent left with workable sections, and can handle plenty of size.
There are other waves in the vicinity,and new spots are being surfed on a regular basis.
