Just Back From Thailand

by Simon Alcaraz

After a 1 week stint in Thailand taking in Bangkok (of course) and Koh Samui I am left wandering- what took me so long? My first visit to this gorgeous country and it was everything I expected and then more.

Bangkok- hot and humid, colourful and sprawling, gleaming new skyscrapers, rooftop bars where evening cocktails are a must as you enjoy the views and the breeze. If you are going to survive a day sightseeing I suggest you make the most of the very impressive light rail system, cheap taxis and then river boats. Again, all of these will provide air con or breezes to help you beat the crippling humidity.

Our hotel- the Adelphi Suites is a small boutique hotel but with all the 5* touches- plunge pool on the 16th floor with amazing city views, gym, restaurant and bar. Only a couple of years old and so has all the modern touches. The staff could not be more friendly and will help you hunt down the best bargains when it comes to shopping, sightseeing and dining out.

Down in Koh Samui the heat and humidity does not let up - but when you are by the pool or on the beach most of the day there’s no problem. Rocky’s Resort is on a perfect location just 10mins south of Chaweng Beach. A small to medium resort with about 40 apartment or villa style rooms. Their restaurant is consistently voted one of the best on the island and after sampling their sea food BBQ buffet I can certainly agree. Two pools and plenty of free beach and water activities get your adrenalin going, whilst those $12 Thai massages by the beach get you all relaxed again.

Such a routine certainly makes it hard to leave after only 7 nights- ‘why didn’t I make it 2 weeks?’ I lament on the flight home.
