Just Back From Vietnam

by Angie Bohlmann

If there’s a heaven on earth, this is it. A home away from home that’ll have you praying to ye gods that your trusty return transfer suffers an irreparable breakdown that’ll have you stranded on the island forever.

I’m talking about the Evason Six Senses Hideaway Ninh Van Bay, in Vietnam.

They really have thought of everything here and have left not a stone unturned….literally. And that’s what I loved most about this beautiful escape. Minimalist style and charm all the way: a surrounding of natural rocks, devoured by green jungle and clear waters.

They’ve tried hard to maintain the original, beautiful environment – and they certainly have succeeded. Lush, green, soaring mountains surrounding white, sandy beaches complete with turquoise water lapping at the shore. And scattered perfectly throughout, the curvaceous rock formations which are so perfect you’d think they’d been strategically placed.

This is one of those places where the beauty is so immense, it takes days for the smile to leave your face long after you’ve left the island.

We stayed in a beach pool villa - a two-story, but very humble abode. Like the rest of the resort, there’s nothing flashy about it – it’s amazingly remarkable yet modest and natural in so many ways.

Huge comfortable day beds are within jumping’s distance upstairs and down. Indoor meshes with outdoor where open living rooms and bi-fold doors from the bediour adjoin your own private swimming pool.

The bathroom itself is such a naturally beautiful area - an enormous wooden bath tub and shower surrounded by delicate, earthy stone, completely outdoors in the privacy of your own sandy courtyard covered by a blue sky roof.

The number of gorgeous sunset locations to sip top quality wine or cocktails can not be exhausted in a week at this place. Pick a daybed, any daybed and sit back and enjoy the sunsets.

I must give extra special compliments to the chef who, on one evening, served me the best beef fillet I’ve ever eaten! Yes, a mighty big call but my hand is on my heart. That’s just another thing that’s a sure thing on the island – food to die for….which for me, makes up a very significant part of any great holiday!

The day spa had us feeling like permanent fixtures on cloud nine after a truly delightful facial and foot treatment. If you want top quality beauty treatment, again, this is the place to go!

There’s no shortage of activities on the island (did I mention the Evason Island has its own time zone?). Everything from water skiing, diving tours, snorkelling, private beach or island dining activities, kayaking, bike riding, tennis…the list goes on. I personally was only able to squeeze in one short snorkel… purely because I felt I would be doing myself an injustice not taking full advantage of either our private pool or one of the bars.

The resort is extremely conscious of the environment too. And while, I shamefully admit this wasn’t my sole reason for staying here, it certainly scored an abundance of brownie points because of the fact.

With the fear of sounding like a broken record, you really must experience Evason Six Senses Hideaway! Live like a King or a Queen for even a couple of nights and you’ll be happy.
