Airline ticket classes and prices can be confusing, especially for new travellers. Choosing which type of ticket you need and getting the best available airfares depends on a number of factors including the time you wish to fly, how early you book, and whether you can bundle your flight with accommodation or holiday packages.
Airline ticket prices vary depending on the month you want to begin your trip. For many Northern Hemisphere destinations prices are markedly more expensive in June/July the than March through May when you can often get a great airfare special.
Booking in advance is also usually a good idea, though you can sometimes get some great last minute special and packages.
Taxes are generally included in the ticket price, however, there may be some additional airport and government charges incurred at the airport. Fuel surcharges should also be taken into consideration when considering which airline to fly with.
Remember that you can sometimes save a lot of money by packaging your airfare and hotel or car hire bookings together. Many airlines and hotels or resorts team up to offer special holiday packages at greatly discounted rates. See here for current holiday packages.
Booking a round the world trip is becoming easier and opening traveller's minds to the diversity of the continents and countries in our world. A round the world trip is a plane ticket that takes you to multiple destinations. You can choose the destinations you would like, or there are many itineraries created for you to choose from. Round the world tickets generally require you to fly in one direction throughout the trip (i.e. East or West) although for those creating their own itineraries there can be exceptions. With specials for students and people under 26 a round the world ticket can sometimes cost less than a single destination ticket. The airfares are usually based on one of two things - the number of miles you travel or the number of continents you visit. Round the world tickets can be quite flexible and it is not uncommon for a traveller to change their itinerary while on their holiday. Changes are easier as the tickets allow a longer maximum stay but fees do apply.
