Major attractions in Bangkok are situated in its 'Old City' on Rattanakosin island. Bangkok has many temples, out of these 3 of the most famous with the tourists are the Wat Arun temple also known as the temple of dawn, the Grand Palace having Wat Phra Kaew or the temple of the emerald Buddha, the Wat Pho, which has the world's largest reclining Buddha.
Wat Arun or temple of dawn is 88 meters in height and the tallest structure in Bangkok. Wat Arun is a distinctive single spike of white intricately inlaid with broken porcelain. Wat Phra Kaew is situated adjacent to the Grand Palace. The temple has a diminutive jade statue, the Emerald Buddha. The Grand Palace is also a famous tourist attraction, though all of its parts are not open for public. It is built in European style and has Thai roofs. Its main highlight is its reception room. Wat Pho is situated to the south of the Grand Palace. It houses the largest reclining Buddha in Asia.
You can visit the Bo-Be market if you are a shopaholic. Jim Thompson House is also worth a visit. Mahakan Fort and Wat Rajanadda are among the places you just cannot afford to miss once in Bangkok. Wat Rajanadda is one of Bangkok's under appreciated temples. It is very close to Saen Saep canal boat terminus and can be easily spotted as it has spires made of black iron. It is a great relaxing point especially after visiting the crowded temples. Some other places you can visit include the National Gallery and the Yaowarat Bangkok's Chinatown.
