Things to Do in Japan

  • Sight Seeing – The cheapest and often the most for filling thing to do. There are many fantastic places to partake in sightseeing, the outdoors but museums, galleries and more touristy sights like cosmetics factories and television studios.
  • Roppongi Hills – This area of Tokyo boasts some fantastic hotels, museums, restaurants, shops, and movie theatres. This area could be considered to be the cultural centre of Tokyo and provides tourists with an excellent experience of the city.
  • Festivals and Events - Japan has an abundance of festivals throughout the year. Some of the most popular include, New Year (31st December – 3rd January), the Doll Festival (3rd of march) and Shichi-Go-San (15th November) a festival for children aged 3, 5 and 7.
  • Mount Fuji – A must see tourist attraction, and for many a must climb. If you’re a climber and happen to be in Japan between July and August (the Mt Fuji climbing season) then you’ll have no excuse to avoid throwing on your climbing gear and booking a Climbing Tour.

Japan: Getting Around

Japan has quite an extensive rail and bus network, allowing travel between most major cities and suburban areas. If you’re on a tight budget it may be best to take the slower but cheaper option of the busses. Rental cars are generally fairly rare due to Japan’s excellent public transport system that encompasses virtually the whole country. The tolls on Japanese expressways are also fairly high with the price usually double to cost of a train ride.

Japan: Climate

Japan has a fairly mild climate tending toward cool. The winter months – December to February – sees temperatures in the single digits in most regions while the summer months (June to August) sees temperatures in the mid 20’s with temperatures rarely reaching 30 degrees Celsius.

Japan Visa Requirements

Many countries have visa arrangements with Japan that do not require travellers to attain a visa (unless travelling to Japan for work or to live). If you’re travelling to Japan from Australia, you only need a visa if you intend to stay for a period exceeding 90-days.
