New Zealand, Australia’s closest neighbour, consists of two large islands - North Island and South Island. NZ’s scenery has long been a major drawcard for tourists from across the globe, and has gained even more exposure recently through Peter Jackson’s hit film trilogy The Lord of the Rings. Auckland Zoo

Auckland Zoo is home to the largest collection of native and exotic animal species, including rare white rhinos, hippos, monkeys and many more. They also have a cafe and a picnic facility, making the Auckland Zoo a great place to take the family.

Rainbow's End, Manukau

Rainbow's End is New Zealand's top theme park and located in Manukau City. With 23 acres of attractions, and rides including a giant drop tower, log flume, a corkscrew roller coaster, and Cadbury Land Castle, this park guarantees a fun-filled day for the whole family.

To experience the underwater world, you’ll need at least two hours. A travelator conveys you a glass aquarium, allowing you to observe a huge variety of sea life, like stingrays, sharks and many species of fish found in New Zealand waters.

The Botanic Gardens, Christchurch

Bordered by the beautiful river Avon, the Botanic Gardens promote Christchurch's reputation as the garden city. The Gardens boast over 30 hectares of walking tracks, sweeping lawns, conservatories, majestic trees, feature gardens, woodland areas, and a spectacular display of New Zealand’s indigenous and exotic plants. What’s more, there are no admission fees.

Piha Beach

Located on the wild Tasman coast, Piha beach is well-known for the Lion Rock vistas, great surf, deadly rips, and black sand beaches. A shop, changing rooms and campground are available. Piha beach is stunning on a wild, windy day and from the northern part of the beach there are walking tracks that will lead you to more isolated beaches.

Tiritiri Matangi Island

Tiritiri Matangi Island in the Hauraki Gulf is a sanctuary for endangered native birds such as Takahe, Kokako and Silvereye. The island is managed by the Department of Conservation and their staff provide guided walks. However, access to Tiritiri Matangi Island is limited and you are advised to make ferry bookings in advance. Hobb's Beach on the island is a great place for picnics and swimming. You can also visit the Tiritiri lighthouse and a souvenir shop.

New Zealand travel information

To enter New Zealand your passport must be valid 3 months after the date of your intended departure and you must also be carrying an onward/return ticket to a country you have permission to enter. However, citizens of Australia are generally exempt from having to obtain visitor permits when holidaying in New Zealand. Check with your local New Zealand embassy for details.
