although the room was clean .Constant sound of water running in the room but wasnt our bathroom, must have freshly painted as there was smell of paint that caused two of us to have headaches unable to discuss this with anyone on departure as no one at the front desk at 8am guessing they left because of the stench we could smell...a sewage blockage, was not pleasant. Tanker was out the back clearing where we had to exit, back door open allowing smell to waft past restaurants open doors and into the lobby, some distance away, had to watch where we were steping. disappointing as this in its daywas a very grand hotel when it was le Grand. however for the $116 for the night I guess you get what you pay for.

TERRIBLE! Never going back. Avoid at all costs. Horrible uncomfortable beds, old building/decor, 1cm border where carpet meets wall doesn't get vacuumed - tempted to leave but we were only staying 1 night so persevered, however at 1am-3am we REALLY regretted it as rooms are not soundproofed so CBD noise from cars revving & drunks screaming & fighting is horrendous on weekends. Couldn't heat room when awake & cold at 1am as aircon only worked on cold and it's literally blasted across the master bed. Can not change or redirect aircon. They also charge $50(!!!!!) if you lose your room key.

My first room had such a terrible odour I had to request a move. The room was noisy, shower had one temperature that was scalding, room felt unclean. Access to the car park felt unsafe and was very dirty. Wouldn't stay there again.

Lots of restaurants close by, almost on the water. Incredibly high ceilings!
Internal layout was unique, could be tricky for people with mobility concerns. (Some rooms were accessed by walking up a few stairs or down a few stairs compared to others on the same level.)
Would stay here again.

Parking at the property, although an additional cost is convenient. VR is a budget hotel with the old charm of it's era, and is situated centrally in the retail area of Hamilton city.

The hotel is OK, however, I found that is unacceptable the policy checkout at 10 am. Normally, the resort's check-out is from 1200pm-12.30 pm. I didn't have time to package on time the receptionist kicked me out because the other Guest was at the door to have the room without a cleaning process. I understood she was following the hotel policy but I will never go to this hotel again.

Toilet had to holc the flush button up to fill.
Room heating did not work.
Shower all of a sudden went to what felt like boiling. Did that 3 times over 2 showers.
The staff are rude. She doesn't acknowledge you when your standing in front of the counter. Not even a with you in a second. Just ignored me and everyone else until she is ready. Could be 2 -5 minutes she does not care.
At checkout to get your bond back. You need to get your room checked and refunded manually back to your credit card. Which is fine. But i had to chase down another lady checking out that dropped her key card and left. The hotel lady took her key but said nothing. The lady checking out would have lost her bond. Its clearly a hotel with tricks to get extra money out of you.
