I personally loved being away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy spots. I am not so sure that my hubby felt the same!!You need a car or scooter - which are cheap as chips. The staff could not have been more lovely - they are superb. I will be back with the grand children.

Perfect location next to water and close to Muri. Swimming pool and kayaks used everyday. Excellent friendly service. If we go back this is were we will stay

3 generations on holiday ,we had 3 units so it was great for organising everyone ,everyone really enjoyed the amenities ,the views and the relaxing time

Large size apartments at quite a magical spot. Its not a typical swimming beach outside but this can be found just a short drive down the road at Muri. Plenty of fish at the end of the jetty and you can potter on the beach at low tide and find crabs. Property is dated but thats what we expected from the photos. The pool was wonderful, salt water and very easy access from the accommodation. Plenty of shade and loungers. Very few apartments means not many people to share the pool with..unlike the big resorts. Just up from the pool are a couple of seats which look directly at the harbour opening...you can spend all day sitting there. Free bananas were delicious. View from upstairs was great. Beds comfortable although pillows too high. Kitchen did have musty smell in draws (common in chipboard kitchens) but i'd read that before so expected it. Washing machine was a life saver. There were relatively few bugs despite a hole in the insect screen. A couple of mosquitos and ants which you should expect anywhere on raro. Once this property is refurbished, it will be amazing.

Although our apartment was a little tired, the service we received from Elyn was excellent. Nothing was ever a problem to her and her wonderful staff. The situation of Avana is great but you do need a car as it takes about 25 minutes to walk to Muri. Lovely and peaceful, great pool and would thoroughly recommend if you want a nice quiet time, but still quite close to the action in Muri. Can't speak highly enough of Elyn though. She is a wonderful asset to Avana Waterfront Apartments.

Stay OK could be much better

Pros: The location is good.
Outwardly a great place but when you get down to it the place is looking a little tired. TV did not work very well, remote broken, asked for help, not fixed. That is one example. The current "minders" (in the absence of Dessiree?) do not seem to be very experienced in running a top quality holiday venue. Our gas bottle ran out and there was no spare. The manager had to take one from another apartment that was currently unoccupied! The snorkeling equipment for use by guests was old and broken as well. And, as many have commented - the wifi is super expensive. All in all quite a disappointing stay. Could have been way better.

Secret Paradise

Lovely place to stay. Tucked away . Loved the peace n quiet but close to Muri beach if you wanted to venture out . Excellent staff.

We stayed at Avana Waterfront Apartments for two weeks with our 9 month old baby and had a fantastic time. We loved swimming in the pool, kayaking across to Motutapu for its pristine beaches, jumping off the jetty, and generally just lazing about. The staff and Desiree in particular were warm and very accommodating, and we are grateful to be upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment upon arrival. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to Muri, where there are plenty of restaurants and cafes on offer. Be aware that if you walk back in the evening the street lights are pretty dim, so have a torch on hand. The clockwise and anti-clockwise buses are great and easy to use. Renting a car for a few days to explore other parts of the island is a good idea too. We loved our time at Rarotonga. The island's beauty, accessibility, and friendly locals make it a very easy place to relax and unwind.

Great location comfortable accommodation

Pros: Location, size, staff, comfortable bed, and size of complex - not overwhelming.
Cons: Snorkling gear very worn, suggest taking your own.,
Location: Muri beach, snorkelling, kayaking, treks, restaurants, fantastic fish sandwiches at local fishing club moorings, deep sea fishing, scooter hirer.
Stayed 9 nights, found it really central to Muri Beach and restaurants etc. Our studio style room was more than adequate, bed was amazingly comfortable same with the pillows, self contained kitchen, nice and spaceous, no complaints at all. The actual complex was great, nice swimming pool and use of BBQ area, bonfire on beach each night, weather permitting. What appealed most and why we chose Avana was that it wasn't to big, with only 10 units there wasn't people everywhere like the larger resorts, but still people to meet and have a drink with around the bonfire etc.. I would definitely stay here again, the staff where very helpful and friendly, there if you needed them but not in your face so to speak. Thanks again Avana, we really enjoyed our stay and will definitely see you again some time. P.S we went deep sea fishing and caught 4 large yellow fin tuna, great experience highly recommend doing.
