The Shannon region is where you’ll find the Cliffs of Moher! Ireland’s most popular attraction, these staggering high cliffs both look and sound like something from a fantasy world. Shannon is also the home of the Bunratty Castle and the River Shannon, so book your Shannon hotel with us for some Shannonigans!
The Cliffs of Moher stretch eight km along Ireland’s coastline and reach as high as 230 metres. O’Brien’s Tower, built in 1835, sits on the highest point of the cliffs. From the top you can see stunning views of the Atlantic Ocean and sometimes all the way to the Aran Islands.
But there’s more to do in Shannon than gape at the sea. The River Shannon, Ireland’s longest river, is the perfect place to hire a boat and enjoy the scenery or chill out in one of the riverside restaurants or bars. The Burren National Park is probably the strangest landscape in Shannon County, made up of blocks of limestone. At Bunratty Castle, built in the 15th century, offers a medieval banquet in the evenings and a living medieval museum during the day.
