Leeton was designed by Walter Burley-Griffin, the same architect responsible for the layout of Canberra. It was purpose built for irrigation work, but today it’s the rice capital of the country and one of Australia’s biggest food-producing regions.

Things to do

At Fivebough Wetlands, you’ll find five kilometres of walking tracks and around 174 species of birds to look out for.

Among the most interesting of Leeton’s Art Deco buildings is The Roxy Theatre. Built in 1930, it has one of Australia’s largest roll-up screens and a stage as well. You can still catch a film there, or take a tour. If you’re keen for more heritage, Whitton Court House is also worth seeing, especially for its historic museum.

And if you’re keen to see more of rural NSW, and maybe take a walking or cycling tour of the Murrumbidgee River, it’s only a 25-minute drive to Narrandera.

Shopping and dining

Streets like Pine Avenue have a decent selection of shops, including clothing shops and jewellers.

Dine at a cafe or family-friendly restaurant, grab some take-away or enjoy a glass of the good stuff at one of Leeton’s wineries. Sip rich premium wines with fruity tastes as you spend a relaxed day in the countryside. Wot could be better?

Getting here

Leeton is one hour away from Wagga Wagga, and the best way to get here is by car (however, you can also seek out a bus route if you’re patient). Watch a movie, watch the birds or just watch the world go by with our Leeton accommodation.
