This place is a relic. It should really be demolished. The owner, Eileen is stuck in a time warp. Our stay there was a disaster. No beach - just 1.5m drop into the murky water as the canal next to the hotel empties into the sea right next to the accommodation. You can only get to the decent water with a kayak which the owner charges you for. Rooms are dated. It rained and we had stayed in our rooms looking at the garden (forest) outside our room. Practically nothing to do. We could not even use the deck at the front because it was being renovated. I honestly think we should have been given a discount for that inconvenience. We paid NZ$500/night - would have got a better stay at another neighbouring places for much cheaper. We definitely not return to this dump. Please book elsewhere otherwise you will be disappointed.

Simply walk outside to feel the sun on your face at the sand beach. Lie back and work on your tan with relaxing beach amenities like umbrellas and sun loungers. Summer fun is a breeze at Hôtel Fenua Mata'i'oa with activities like snorkeling, scuba diving, and kayaking. There's a snack bar/deli on site. You can enjoy a drink at the bar/lounge. WiFi is free in public spaces. This Beaux Arts hotel also offers a garden and a terrace. Self parking is free. A complete renovation of Hôtel Fenua Mata'i'oa was completed in November 2021. Smoking is allowed in designated areas at this 4-star Moorea-Maiao hotel.
